We saw all the sights in Paris that one must see or has time to in such a short stay. Went via train to Versailles for the day. Be sure to go see Louis's house! The man knew how to live. The metro was so easy to use, we walked and used it only. Took the train to Avignon and picked up a car for a tour of Southwest France. Spend two days each in Sarlat and Figeac and one night in Miripoix and Les Baux, before turning the car in and heading to Barcelona. The Dordogne Valley is filled with history, caves and beautiful small villages. Seeing original cave drawings from 25,000 BC was one of the most incredible things I have ever experienced. We stumbled onto a Apple festival in a small town and spent the day listening to polka bands and drinking fresh pressed cider. Found a small B&B outside Les Baux, Le Mas de L'Esparou. The owner was an artist and sold us a beautiful small watercolor and his wife served 15 homemade jams for breakfast. Left France reluctantly and headed to Barcelona. What a change! Barcelona is bright, warm, colorful and full of life. Stayed right on the Ramblas at Hotel Continental. Wonderful hotel, large rooms, clean, balcony for people watching and great price, $65 for a double. Take the tourist bus right away, best thing we did. Two day ticket, get on and off anywhere.
