|Subject: Versailles from Paris|
I visited Versailles when I was in Paris in September. Versailles is a close (about ~ 30 minutes away) and common destination. Any desk clerk in any hotel or hostel in Paris can give you directions. According to, http://www-rocq.inria.fr/transport/#public-paris:
RER A: Take the express subway (from Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile, Auber, Châtelet, Gare de Lyon, or Nation) line RER A in direction of Saint-Germain-en-Laye or Cergy-Saint-Christophe (any westbound train). Change at La Défense for Versailles-Rive-Droite; there take shuttle bus (schedule follows). Alternatively: Change at Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile for Paris bus.
RER C: Take the train from Austerlitz, Saint-Michel, Musée d'Orsay, Invalides, Pont de l'Alma, Champ de Mars, Javel or Boulevard Victor to Versailles-Rive-Gauche; there take shuttle bus.
The directions sound more complicated than they really are. Also, check out the official homepage for Chateau Versailles for more details, a map, and opening hours: http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/
