Subject: RE: Passport required for Mexico?

I went back to work today. They confirmed that Canadians do not need a passport to come to Mexico.

I read with interest in yesterday's Toronto Star that a passport is now required for Canadians travelling to Mexico. Does anyone know when this was put into place as this was formerly not required when we were last there a couple of years ago.

Pat, I work at the Canadian Embassy in Mexico, in the Consular section. I haven't heard anything about needing a passport to travel to Mexico. Canadians can travel to Mexico with either a passport, a birth certificate (if born in Canada) or a citizenship card.

I've been off sick all this week. Unless things have changed since last Friday, the above should still hold true.
