Subject: Re: Travels in Africa
Hi Africa lovers! We have been to Tunisia and Kenya. Tunisia is cheap and cheerful - a 3 day Sahara trip was fascinating and fun if touristy. We went to kenya 3 years ago - cheapest destination for safaris. The children still remember it vividly and long to return. You have a huge range of prices and really whatever you do will be special. An option for a long trip from LA might be to have a couple of days in London and buy a 'package' from there. Companies like Hayes and Jarvis &Somak run all sorts of options. Zimbabwe is still unsettled. As of this week Kenya has reintroduced a visitors visa costing about 35 per person. You need a visa and yellow fever jabs for Tanzania. Wherever you go do not forget the need for antimalarials - there has been a huge increase in malaria cases in the UK this year mainly due to people buying last minute deals to Africa and not taking antimalarials. Also paludrine and chloroquine no longer effective in many areas and you really need to take mefloquine (Larium in the UK). But it really is worth it.
