Subject: Lucca
First of're going to love Lucca. As I recall, the hotels and shops outside the walls aren't that near the train station. Can't say for sure, but I don't think noise would be much of a problem. Still, I'd recommend investigating hotels inside the walls. The walk would be easy from the station, but the area outside the walled city is pretty charmless--whereas it's positively delightful inside. I tried to stay at the Piccolo Hotel Puccini but it was booked up (V. di Poggio 9, 0583/49-22-02). My guidebook says they can arrange for parking. When in Lucca, consider eating at Da Giulio (V. di Conce 45). A sensational restaurant! Another fun thing to do is to rent bikes and ride the promenade on top of the city walls.
