We used the 'Door to Door' mini bus service, as suggested by Sandy, and found them good value.
Parisians, as do all the French, seem to appreciate some attempt at using their language, even, if like us, you make a complete hash of it. I tend to think, that the anti American attitude in France is greatly exaggerated.
We had little trouble in making ourselves understood, even in some of the villages that were off the beaten track. Many a laugh was had, by both parties, at some of the sign language that was resorted to.
