You definitely should be excited! What an adventure you have in store.
My personal recommendations (as you are artists) would be the Musee d'Orsay and the Rodin Museum. There are many wonderful museums in Paris, but visiting these two were special experiences for me. The Orsay is Impressionist heaven, and the Rodin collection moved me to tears. Incredible passion. There's also interesting works on hand by Camille Claudel.
The stained glass at Sainte Chapelle is unforgettable, and the Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint Louis are great fun to explore. But the best thing to do in Paris on a sunny summer day has got to be outdoor cafe sitting. The best people-watching in the world, and all for the price of a cup of coffee.
