Your friends can fly between London &Amsterdam very cheaply using one of the budget airlines. I personally have used EasyJet http://www.easyjet.com/en/ and it only cost 20 pounds one way (just over a year ago). The flight is only 1 hour so I didn't care about seat allocation or food not being served etc.

I loved Amsterdam and am sure your friends will as well.
