|Subject: Giverny and Versailles|
First to all ziners out there - a very belated thank you for all your
fine suggestions re all my recent questions about hostels, etc. I've
been totally bogged down at work and just now am able to thank you
all for your good help. forgive the lateness of my response.
About Giverny and Versailles, I would definitely do Giverny - it is a beautiful delight - if you can, rent a car and get there on your own - it's not too far from Paris (about 1 1/2 hrs? - and easy to find) - there are some wonderful little towns all around to explore if you have the time. If not, I'm sure there are tours from Paris.
I've been to Versailles twice - most recently last Spring and felt it was not worth the time, especially if your time in Paris is limited. There are so many wonderful things to see and feel and enjoy in Paris. That's, of course, my opinion. If you do decide to go, you can easily get to Versailles from Paris on the train. I don't recall the exact line, but I know it was very easy from the Metro to the out- of-town train, and I think it's pretty reasonably priced. The train leaves you within very easy walking distance to the palace. It's become quite a tourist trap - with mcdonalds and the like all along the way to where the palace is, so be prepared!
If I had to choose, I would chose to spend a day touring Giverny - and spend the rest of the time in Paris.
have a great trip, vanessa cutchogue, ny
