Subject: RE: Insurance Woes
It may pay to purchase your own travel insurance apart from the group sponsor. Several years ago I was appointed receiver for a student travel company which badly burned over 2,000 students. The program offered travel and cancellation insurance to protect the students in the event the travel cancelled. Guess what? The company did not pay the insurer and the insurer denied all the claims. By the way, only one insurance company paid the students claims under their parent's homeowners insurance. That was State Farm Insurance. I got to deal with a number of insurance companies in that case and only State Farm paid their policy holder claims. I was impressed. By the way, I wound up distributing only 3 cents per dollar of claim. It was a miserable dividend on those claims and it could never replace the heartbreak of the lost travel.
