The drive along the coast would be wonderful. Of
course the fastest way would be to stay on the speedy tollroads, but you
could intersperse that with times of getting off of those and onto the
roads closest to the coast. I am only familiar with the area east of
and the places we've especially enjoyed are Cassis, east of Marseilles,
and Roquebrun, overlooking Monte Carlo. A very special, but relatively
inexpensive, place to stay in Roquebrun is Hotel de Deux Freres. Room
# 2 is our favorite - looking over Monte Carlo way below, and the beautiful
Mediterranean, with the parasailors floating down to the beach below.
Delicious meals there too, and a so-friendly host, Willem.
Have you been to Aix yet? A favorite of mine. Also enjoy Eze and Vence.
On into Italy, we really enjoyed San Remo, where we spent some time this
winter. Next year we'd like to go back and stay there for a week, instead
of travelling around as we did this past Jan.. We'd go to the wonderful
market every day, and enjoy the ocean promenade, and well-priced shopping.
There are some fascinating little towns inland from there too - kind of
lost in time.
Happy travels Anne
