Providence Airport, actually Green Airport in Warwick, RI, is an easy airport to get in and out. If you choose not to rent a car, there are daily direct flights to the islands from the airport.

Although we didn't use a car all the time, the island is large enough to require one if you really want to see everything. Plan on June being on the cool side and dress appropriately.

The ferry ride from Wood's Hole in Falmouth is not long and very pleasant, but you will need reservations for a car. I think there is a ferry from New Bedford but it's a longer ride. Hope I answered some of your questions,
