Subject: Canada's Maritime Provinces |
Hello Pat &Bill,
August will be a good time to visit the Maritimes. If I can be of any
help with info on Nova Scotia, please ask. Since you didn't mention the
types of things you would be interested in, it's difficult to recommend
things at this point. Halifax in August hosts the International Busker
Festival, a Designer Craft Festival and various other events province
wide. I agree with John Rule's recommendation to visit Lunenburg (and
add the Chester/Mahone Bay area) for beautiful scenery and lots of history
on boatbuilding. In the Bridgewater area, my favourite beach is Risser's
Beach, which is a beautiful sandy beach with a long boardwalk through
the saltmarsh.
Also, Wolfville is a picturesque university town with scenery, theatre,
and some very nice B &B's ( i.e. Blomidon Inn and Victoria's Historic
Inn). Annapolis Royal has a botanical garden and historic fortress.
Halifax has theatre, symphony, museums and historic parks (as well as
live Shakespeare productions in the park). There's also a Farmer's Market
in the historic waterfront area.
The Cabot Trail is most spectacular in October, but is beautiful at any time.
