|Subject: Books fair in Madrid|
This reminds me of one of the nicest things you can do on a Sunday morning
in Madrid-- especially if the book fair runs along the Calle Claudio
Moyano on the southern end of El Parque del Retiro. By about 11:00 a.m.
the whole park, and especially the area around the lagoon, seems to fill up
spontaneously with madrileņos and their extended families. There is every
kind of light food and street entertainment. When we were there, we saw
puppet shows, jugglers, artists, magicians, Basque tumblers, Galician
dancers and gaita players, flamenco guitarists, and countless of those
painted human statue acts, (which seem ubiquitous in Europe now.) It was a
wonderful way to feel the spirit of the city.
