Another option if you're looking for a hotel in a U.S. city is to use
Priceline in conjunction with Hotwire http://www.hotwire.com .
Hotwire gives you a price quote that it holds for 30 minutes; it will
only name the hotel after you give your credit card number and commit
to it (but it will say the hotel is upscale, midscale, etc.). During
the 30 minutes, you can make a lower bid on Priceline, which promises
a reply within 15 minutes. If the Priceline bid is rejected, just
take the Hotwire deal. Be sure you understand the terms and
conditions of these sites, in particular that if your Priceline bid
is accepted, you can't get out of it.
