Subject: USA air travel
As others have said, it's certainly best to book these trips in advance, understanding that the lowest fares are non-refundable and could cost at least $100 to make the smallest change. I like searching for fares, so I did a search for a New York-San Francisco trip in June. , a downloaded program, showed a round trip of $325 for JFK-Oakland non-stop on JetBlue, a start-up airline. The next lowest was close to $400. Oakland is convenient to San Francisco if you take the BART train. You might compare this with what a travel agent can find in conjunction with your transatlantic trip. If they can't match it or book JetBlue themselves, you can book online at ; they seem to allow people with overseas addresses to book. All this is unless someone here has warnings against taking JetBlue.
