Linda is right - white is connected with mourning in Chinese culture but it
also means purity and honesty - so it isn't quite as bad as black - which is
connected with evil, dirt, suffering, etc. (but, of course, you won't find
too many black flowers.
Red, which is always associated with good luck, would be the best choice - for gift wrap and/or flowers (it keeps evil away and connotes happiness and wealth) - and yellow would also be fitting because it (to a lesser degree) symbolises prosperity and good luck.
There's nothing more enjoyable than cross-cultural experiences (especially over the dinner table) - enjoy!
