Sandie,
That's true about the beaches in Barra de Navidad not being great. Passable
but not great. On the same bay to the north, Melaque has a bit nicer
beaches.
But Barra de Navidad has nicer hotels and a little better ambience, with
the lagoon on one side and the ocean on the other. The towns are about
1 and 1/2 miles apart.
Further north is Playa de los Angeles Locos on the Bahia de Tenacatita. Another of the spectacular bays that line the Costa de Careyes. We stayed in an all-inclusive resort there that was owned by Fiesta Americana and has since changed hands. We drove this coast from Puerto Vallarta to Manzanillo (and inland to Colima) about seven years ago. Along the way we stayed at PV, Barra de Navidad, Manzanillo, Colima, and Tenacatita. A good book that should be of help is Hidden Mexico: Adventurer's Guide to the Beaches and Coasts by Rebecca Bruns. My copy is 14 years old but I still reference it occasionally. I believe the author has passed away and I'm not sure what year the latest edition is. But if you can find the book it may be quite helpful. John Rule San Diego CA |
