I've been living in Rome for 3 years (1980-1983) and my last visit is about 4 years ago. Hotel San Silvestro is at Piazza San Silvestro right in the middle of the historic center, close to Via del Corso. Even though I've never stayed in this hotel personally I would consider this location as safe as the whole centro storico and I would love this place. From 1983 to 1997 the city of Rome has done a lot to make the city a safer place, I didn't see any guys selling drugs any more, which was a usual thing around Piazza Navona 18 years ago. Sorry for not knowing more actual stuff. Enjoy your trip!
