A BIG thank-you to all Ziners for their advice, contributions and suggestions.
We arrived in Venice late on a hot hot afternoon. Loved our couple of
days there. Picked up a car and went off exploring - ended up in Bassano
del Grappa for a couple of nights, toured the countryside including visiting
Asolo. On to Verona, which, after Venice was my fave place. (Afraid the
heat curtailed our activities somewhat). Drove down to Florence for one
night. We then went to our beautiful farmhouse near Borgo san Lorenzo
for a week (we didn't know that June 2nd was a holiday and the stores
were closed - which made grocery shopping a bit of challenge to say nothing
of the drive up to the farmhouse!) The scenery from the farmhouse was
magnificent and the grounds beautifully kept. We drove around the lovely
countryside visiting some of the old villages. The next week it was off
to Umbria to a villa at Passignano on Lake Trasimeno. This was a beautiful
villa high in the hills; we could sit on our balconies and gaze at Lake
Trasimeno and the islands (and all the stars and fire flies at night).
Passiganano was a busy little holiday town; one day we took the ferry
over to Isola Maggiore and what luck, there was a celebration and a parade
down to main street and back to the beautiful little church for a service.
We visited Cortona, Perugia, Montepulicano, Gubbio.
It's hard to believe we planned for such a long time and now it's all over and we only saw such a small portion of a fabulous part of Italy. The food was great and the people friendly and accommodating - even when our van broke down in a tunnel in 38 degree heat on a Saturday afternoon!! Barbara |
