Subject: Peru altitude sickness -- Rosemary's query
I just checked with 5 friends who went to the areas you mentioned last year on various trips; none of them had any ill effects (the only thing mentioned was that one had a slight headache that quickly went away). They ranged in age from mid 40's to mid 60's. Some were very very active and climbed everything possible. Others were content with walking around and looking up, but all visited the Machu Picchu ruins. Four of the five went to our area travel medicine clinic before months before the trip and got their advice on everything medical, taking all possible medications with them when they went. That is probably an excellent thing to do. Good wishes for a fine trip. Pat in Baltimore
