Hi Ruth,
Sri Lanka is a wonderful place to travel! My husband and I went there in 1998 as an adjunct to a 3 day holiday we won to the Maldives and I would really like to go back some day. We went to Columbo, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy, and up into the mountains to Nuwara-Eliya. The UNESCO site at Sigiriya was absolutely fascinating - an ancient city built on a flat mountain top with incredible water gardens down below - quite amazing. We loved Kandy, the tea plantations and the small town of Nuwara-Eliya. The people are very friendly and fascinating to talk to about their very sad political situation. Send me a note if you'd like more information about hotels etc. We stayed in the historic Galle Face Hotel in Columbo and also the Queen's Hotel in Kandy and a wonderful small almost B&B up in the mountains. Also the place we stayed in Sigiriya was exceptional (will have to find the names of the latter two). Cheers! Judy in Hong Kong |
