Subject: Beware Hotel des Marronniers in Paris - Reservation Not Honored
Dear Readers,

I cannot recommend the Hotel des Marronniers (6th Rue Jacob) to anyone because the Hotel does not honor its reservation confirmation.

In January, 2001, I reserved a room for a friend and myself at the Hotel for June 19 - 29, confirmed with numerous faxes from the Hotel. When I called the Hotel on June 2, just before leaving for Provence on June 6th, I was horrified to learn that my reservation had been canceled in February without any notification to me. Explanation: human error, so sorry. I could not get through to any manager, just reservation clerks who apologized but could not correct the error.

I must have called hundreds of hotels, apartment/hotels, and reservation services, to to no avail. Every hotel room in Paris seemed to be booked through June. I finally had to fall back on the Hotel's offer to put us up in another hotel near the Sorbonne -- which turned out to be a decidedly inferior, filthy, unairconditioned hotel, the Hotel Trianon Rive Gauche. After struggling with the hotel's poor quality , the rising heat in Paris, and restaurants that lacked any air cooling or even fans, we desperately sought an airconditioned room -- anyhwere. We found one in a hotel that was outside Paris, in the La Defense area that has only business and government offices.

We tried to keep our spirits up, but all this certainly put a damper on a trip that we had so eagerly awaited.

Regards, Helen B.
