I like the Formosa, a famous Hollywood eatery known for its good food and great atmosphere : http://www.seeing-stars.com/Dine2/Formosa.shtml The restaurant and cafe at the Getty is also nice ( good soup) as are the restaurant and cafe at LA county Museum of Art (LACMA). Also at LACMA is the Friday night free Jazz concerts.

There is much to do in Ventura as well. Visit the Mission and walk around state street where there are many second hand stores and other interesting places. Visit Channel Islands National park, based out of Ventura's harbor. Take a ride to Ojai or better yet, ride the Ojai Bike trail. Visit Santa Barbara.
