Subject: Re: Can we talk- Williamsburg Plan |
Dear Elizabeth,
Here are a couple of ideas for outside Williamsburg:
You can take scenic Highway 5 from Williamsburg to Richmond. There
are several historic Plantations you can stop at along the way. Most
will be open for tours and one, Shirley Plantation, has a restaurant.
Richmond is about an hour away. In Richmond, there are several
historic sites, the Capital building designed by Jefferson, and
museums , including a Children's Museum.
A longer jaunt, but well worth the drive (about 2.5 hours), is
Monticello near Charlottesville, home of the University Of Virginia.
The tour of Monticello is excellent and there is a historic
restaurant just before you enter Jefferson's estate. I took my
family there last Thanksgiving and there were no crowds.
Very best,
Mark
