|Subject: Re: Can we Talk!!|
Hello from Montreal.
I don't post very often but thought to add a comment or two here this time.
I have tentative plans to travel next May. I have a choice of two Canadian destinations in mind. Both will depend on whether my wife can get the time off from her work.
I have always wanted to go to Churchill, Manitoba. Not to see the Polar Bears or the Northern Lights, but for the train ride itself. My proposal is to take the train from Montreal to Toronto, then fly to Winnipeg (using my Aeroplan points, of course), and take the train up to Churchill. We would fly back to Winnipeg, stay a few days in the city, then fly back to Toronto, and return to Montreal by train. Complicated? Yes, but fun too, with lots of train-travel.
My other choice of destination is Labrador City, Newfoundland. The train plays a minor part in this excursion, running from Sept-Iles to Labrador City. For the remaining travel, we would take the Inter-city Buses. It is possible to get from Montreal to Sept-Iles in one day with 2 bus connections - one in Quebec City, and one in Baie Comeau. However, I think we would probably stay-over on Baie Comeau to break the 14 1/2 hour journey. There are other ways to get to Sept-Iles of course - the Nordik Express Ferry runs from Rimouski (and we could get there by train from Montreal) on Thursdays, arriving in Sept-Iles at 2 am the following day. Or you can rent a car or take a plane.
You will notice that I make the 'train' my first preference and the 'plane' my last.
My planning will start early in the new year, all being well.
