If Flavio took Deb &Kurt to the same restaurant in Trastevere that he took Simon and I to, here are the details:
Osteria Der Belli Ristorante Pizzeria Piazza S. Apollonia, 9/11 Tel: 06 5803782 05 5812202 Just off Piazza S. Maria in Trastevere Moderate-inexpensive
Our restaurant of choice in Rome was
Ristorante Piperno Monte De'Cenci, 9 Tel: 06 68806629 06 6861113 located near Campo de'Fiori and the Ghetto
Old Roman restaurant that specializes in the Jerusalem Artichoke and various fried specialties. Try the artichoke deep-fried (Carciofi Alla Giudia) - it is fabulous. The centers remain moist - the outside leaves, normally so tough, become crisp like chips. We shared Rombo (turbot) perfectly baked in white wine. Simple preparation, moist &delicious. The fried dessert choice was Le Palle di Nonno Fritto, a deep-fried ball of ricotta cheese and chocolate. Sounds weird but it was terrific. The service was excellent. Expensive - reservations a must.
