|Subject: Mexico City hotel|
In my family we've decided to go over Christmas to Oaxaca, with a
stopover in Mexico City. In the big city I'm holding a reservation
at the Casa Inn on Rio Lerma in the Colonia Cuauhtemoc. Does anyone
know this hotel and the current state of the neighborhood? It's just
outside the Zona Rosa and near the U.S. Embassy, an apparently
upscale neighborhood. The U.S. State Dept. advisory on Mexico at
http://www.travel.state.gov/mexico.html says some worrisome things
about street crime in the area, though. I'm inclined to keep this
reservation and tell everyone to exercise special caution,
particularly those who might want to take in the Zona Rosa
nightlife. An alternative would be to stay near the Zocalo where I
stayed on a previous trip. Any comments?
As an aside, I've learned of around $1500 in fraudulent charges on my credit card; it looks like it's being dealt with properly.
