Subject: Hotel vs self-catering
Hi Frances, I was in Paris with my mum the last week of September, and we opted for an aparthotel. I really think itīs not a question of price, but of personal preferences.

As everything was so full, we ended up trying with the Citadines Aparthotel in Saint Germain. The price for a two person studio was around 1200 FF. It was expensive, but I couldnīt find a cheaper place near the centre. The aparthotel is located on the Left Bank, on the Quai des Grands Augustins. As you step out of the door, you have the Pont Neuf and you can see the Samaritaine in front of you, with the statue of Henri IV. And just five minutes away you have the RER and Metro station of Saint Michel, always handy to move around. The building was fully renovated a couple of years ago, and the apartments are really nice. We didnīt cook, just breakfast and maybe a couple of salads for dinner. The best thing for us was being able to have breakfast with your night-gown and the slippers on. Iīm never fully awake until I have had my breakfast, and having to dress properly and go down, itīs a bit too much. Also, it rained almost everyday, and a couple of days we were able to get back to the apartment, change clothes, maybe have a cup of tea or a camomile and relax a bit.

I give you the URL for the aparthotel, in case you are interested : http://www.citadines.com

Last year in Prague we also stayed at an apartment, and we also loved it. I usually prefer to stay at an apartment when Iīm planning to stay in the same place for a week or so. I like the feeling of staying in a place, going shopping for food, staying late in bed and donīt worry about the maid having to clean the room.
