Subject: Which Part of Mexico?
For Louise who enquired about Mexico, Cancun is Miami Beach in Mexico if you like that kind of thing. Cabo is upscale with lots of golf and deep sea fishing. I would recommend Puerto Vallarta wholeheartedly - it's small enough that you can walk around in old town, lots of good beaches, side trips to Yelapa, excellent restaurants and nightlife. If you can get a reservation and want quaint, very clean, friendly, and relatively inexpensive try Los Cuatro Vientos Hotel, Matamoros 520. It's located in a Mexican neighbourhood up behind the cathedral with a drop dead view of all of Vallarta from Los Arcos all the way down to the marina. Breakfast is free every day except Monday. This is a place where people return year after year with a very convivial atmosphere. Owner is Gloria Whiting, an American. There is also one of Puerto Vallarta's best restaurants on site - Chez Elena. Rates I believe are about $50-60 U.S. per night. They have a website at http://www.cuatrovientos.com

You can also e-mail Gloria for reservations.

The room you see is actually the one we stay in when we go to the hotel. It's the corner room on the third floor with a double balcony so you can sit and see in both directions - you could request that particular room. Also, on top of the hotel is El Nido a nice little bar where taxiloads of folks come in the evening to watch the sunset.
