|Subject: Re: Southern France|
I did a package tour of France in May, two years ago, and thought it was ideal. Four days each in Paris, Avignon, Nice and then three days in Annecy, returning home via Geneva since Annecy is so near there. It included the TGV to go from Paris to Avignon. We loved every place we stayed and there were so many optional trips, we felt we had seen the highlights of the area very well. Like you, I didn't want to pack up and move every other day. This was a good mix, and Annecy is charming and we would have missed it had we been traveling on our own. The tour is called Paris, Provence and the Alps, and is in the current brochure for 2002. It was with Go Ahead Vacations, 1-800-242-4686, or online at: goaheadvacations.com.
In fact, I liked it so well I may take it again next year. Especially now, my children will worry less about me if I'm with a group, and the friend who planned to go with me and do the driving has had to cancel out. May is the ideal time, I think. The gardens at Giverny are unbelievable, and the chestnut trees are worth the trip.
However you go, just enjoy.
