Subject: Re: New Member with Italy questions
Hi Sherry,

I agree with everything said about Cinque Terre. Visually it is quite beautiful but has become very touristy over the last few years. I did not find the food extraordinary.

Having been to Italy (Tuscany) many times, I would agree with Linda that spending 1 week in Tuscany and 1 week in Umbria would be ideal. I would, however, recommend finding accommodations in the Chianti area - north of Siena, south of Florence and east of the S2 highway connecting Siena & Florence. The Tuscan landscape in and around the area of route S 222 is spectacular. We have spent many weeks in a vineyard just outside of Radda in Chianti and have found this town to have all the necessities including an excellent Alimentari. Staying in this area will allow you easy access to most villages and major towns and it is within a 1/2 hour drive to Florence. As for Umbria, I agree with Linda as well - staying somewhere between Perugia & Assisi will give you the best access to the heart of Umbria.

Have a wonderful time in our favorite place.
