My wife and I are visiting AMS for a few days next week. We have been to Europe several times but this is our first time to Holland. Any special recommedations on places to stay (mid range and up is fine) or things to do?

We were thinking of the hotel Estherea or Vondel. Also we like cycling and kayaking -- weather might not be cooperative but if anyone has some insights that would be great.
