Larry spoke of the wonders of Fiesole, and you
certainly can't beat the price getting there from downtown (is my memory
correct that the bus is number 7, which, indeed, you get at the side of the
SMN train station?)
We have a particularly fond memory. The last time we were there, a man was selling knickknacks. Among them was a brass menorah (the candelabra that Jews light at Chanukah, which starts tomorrow evening). Of course we had to buy it (for some munificent sum), and we will be using it again.
For anyone visiting, there is a nice garden restaurant at the main piazza (it may be the only piazza--Fiesole is not very big). I can't say the food is extraordinary, but what a magnificent view!
