Subject: Re: Pompeii
Hi Cynthia, We stayed in the Sorrento area this past Fall and had a wonderful day at Pompeii as well as Herculaneum and Vesuvius. I'd say it's well worth accomodating your Son, if you can find the time.I would urge you to book a guide if you do go, we had an excellent person and she really added to our enjoyment The trip from Rome to Naples by Eurostar is under 2 hours and very comfortable (we learned that it is always necessary to book ahead for Fridays and Sundays!) If you choose to stay around Sorrento rather than Naples, it is pleasant but I would imagine very touristy in Summer and it's also another hour or so from Naples on the Circumvesuviana which I would describe as a combination commuter/tourist train. In Naples there is the Museo Archeologico Nationale which houses the most important finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum. In one of Linda and Don's Italy travelogues, there is an excellent description of their day trip to Naples Best regards, Have fun Judy Abbotsford BC Canada
