I'm a bit slow responding to your introductory post. Welcome to the Zine. For anyone who loves to travel, let me assure you that you've come to the right place -- both for the abundance and quality of information and for making lots of friends who share your love of travel.
My first trip to Europe on my own was to Switzerland, something I had dreamed of since I was a child. It far exceeded my wildest dreams. How can you dream of the Alps if you haven't seen them? If your schedule allows, I would recommend a trip to Zermatt, even though it means parking your car and taking the little train up the mountain (since cars are verboten in Zermatt). I can't tell you that it isn't touristy, but I can't imagine anyone's not being impressed by that kind of view of the Matterhorn. My first sight of it, very early in the morning with the sun on it was one of those travel thrills you never forget. Wherever I go, I always prefer the small towns and rural areas to the city (with the single exception of Paris), and Switzerland is so full of them you can hardly miss.
Just take good notes, so you can share it all with the rest of us on your return. By the way, I'm at Lakeway (on Lake Travis, out of Austin). Isn't Keller in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? Somehow some of us Texans should be able to GTG even though it is a big state.
