|Subject: In places like Umbria or Toscana, to stay in or out of the little towns...|
..that is the question.
In oher words where to stay in the country side or in the towns?
I know what I prefer, I like to sleep inside the towns preferably in a quaint small hotel, in places like..... Massa Maritima, Volterra,Orvieto, Siena,Cortona, Gubbio, Todi,Peruggia etc etc etc. and hope to do it in many others ......
This question occured to me when I noticed that Untours has apartments in the country side in both these regions, and also because I have heard wonders about agritourisms in the country side.
The idea of staying in an agrotourism appeals to me a lot too,........ when I hear of the wonderful home made food they prepare using local products, that they have their own olive oil, :-) bake their own bread,:-)) ... of beautiful pools sourounded by olive trees I am tempted to rush and stay in one of these charming places ( actually we only stayed in one of them in Orvieto , the Locanda Rosati) but driving every day back home climbing hills , instead of having a stroll in town after dinner and ending with gelato or sitting lazily in a cafe seems to appeel more to me.- One of the fondiest memories I have of traveling in Italy is staying in a friend's house in Soriano, near Rome, and everynight after dinner going to the most popular cafe in town, sitting in the terrace and chatting with practically anyone that come along. Our hostess knew everybody and she kept introducing us to them.
May be it is because I am fortunate to live in front of the ocean and to walk everyday by the sea, dipping here and there in the ocean ,.... enjoying a good quota of out doors life... ( No swimming now, it is COLDDDDDD....) I am always ready to change my point of view,..... so what do you think are the pros and cons?....Graziella- Miami Beach-
