The trees there are spectacular - knarled and ancient and lovely! We were there years ago during one Christmas week - Also, a must on that tour is Clovelly (charming seaside town) and King Arthur's Castle remains on the coast near Camelford (I think?) It's called Tintigal (my spelling is awful - please forgive me!!!) We visited on a misty, cold morning with no one but ourselves - Walking around, we could almost hear the hooves of the horses as they neared their castle home... Amazing area!!! (If you want, the New York Times did a wonderful travel blurb on this in the 80's -- I think in their Sunday travel section) I had saved it in a travel folder - I believe it was called Following the Path of Lorna Doone. It was a wonderful starter for that whole area. Susie Newton, MA |
