you can also pick up your car in Mestre (Venice) and drive on A27 highway to Belluno; you're just a step away from Cortina. Flying into Milan is not convenient for driving to Dolomiti (sorry Marco!) because you have to drive across the most trafficked routes in Northern Italy. I wouldn't also drive up from Florence, if the rental price is the same in Verona or Venice, letting the train take you through the Appennini mountains instead of fighting your way on the road.
