Subject: High water in Venice

high water in Venice usually happens in the fall, a combination of rains, high tide and southernly winds. I've seen it a couple of times, the sea waves comig up to St.Mark's church front and people walking on elevated gangplanks. But the most troublesome thing was walking on some backstreets on little canals and not being able to tell the hard floor from the deep water! You really had to walk very close to the walls for rearing of going over the edge. Venetians say it's very dangerous for drunks :-)
