Hello Carollyn
$576 sounds rather steep to me! Even though June is a popular month to visit
this beautiful city you can certainly get a decent hotel far cheaper -
probably nearly half that.
In December we stayed at Hotel Adria http://www.hoteladria.cz Perfect
position, 4*, very comfortable, very efficient service and huge breakfasts!
if you type in 'discount hotels' to your search engine (I like msn.com and
google.com) you'll get loads of sites offering deals. Booking via these
sites is so easy and we've never had any problems. I would advise you to
book soon though. If you want 5* I would look at the Pariz and The Palace -
very plush!
I would recommend being somewhere around the Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske
Namesti) / Old Town area - its good to have somewhere to nip back to if your
feet give out! Also as you will only be there a short time its great to be
in the middle of everything.
Public transport is cheap and frequent. Taxis are plentiful and good value -
but be careful and ALWAYS negotiate the price first. I can give you more
details if you want!
Personally I would avoid the set tours. We watched hoardes being shepherded
round and as is usual only those right in front of the guide caught all she
said. Prague is so easy to navigate on your own and there are so many
excellent guidebooks I certainly wouldn't bother.
This was my third visit and I'd be happy to suggest itineraries if that
would be of use - obviously it depends on your particular interests.
So book it independantly and use the money saved on a great meal and some
crystal!
Regards
Sally
