Subject: London location question
Debbie, Kirsten and I stayed at the Thanet a few years ago--it received good recommendations from either Frommer or Fodor's, we can't remember which. In fact, we seem to recall that it was recommended as the best at its price in London. In any case, it's your typical Georgian row house convert: breakfast area and front desk downstairs; everything else up one or more stairs. The rooms were small, the bed was a bit saggy, the bathroom faucet leaked, the breakfast bland, etc.

Fortunately, we were there in April so we didn't need to open the window because of the street noise. Unfortunately, we can't offer you a good alternative at this price nor comment on the alternatives you've mentioned. We've always decided to bite the bullet in London and spend a bit more to avoid the types of rooms that I've described above at the Thanet. If you're willing to splurge then 5 Sumner Place is very nice (but don't get a room facing the garden in the summer because it catches the full afternoon sun and they're not air conditioned) and we enjoyed the Knightsbridge Greens Hotel. Hope this help a bit.
