We stayed at the Poseidon Hotel in Amalfi. The views over the mediterranean were outstanding and the hotel was beautiful - it included our own little terrace. However it was pricey but worth it. Don't forget to visit Ravello - there is a music festival in the summer but I am not sure when. Perhaps another Ziner knows. Also if you love Italian ceramics, dishes, etc., spend some time in Vietri sul Mare where you will find many stores selling typical Italian styles. And if you have the opportunity, drive to Battipagli, the Bufala Mozzarella capital of Italy. Dinner at Il Retrovo was a special opportunity - the owner or a neighbour will pick you up from your hotel and drive straight up the mountain to the restaurant which is located in an upper residential area. It would be impossible to find otherwise. The fish is excellent and the service from charming Teresa is attentive &impeccable. There is a small restaurant a few doors north of the Poseidon Hotel that served the best pasta with Scamp I have ever eaten. The restaurants on the beach are overpriced and very touristy but the location can't be beat. It is good for pizza.
