Subject: Abingdon, VA, Great Smokies
I heartily second Debbie's suggestion to visit Abingdon. Additional recommendations there: if you are interested in art be sure to check out the William King Regional Arts Center and the New Light Gallery. Next door to the New Light Gallery is the Tavern, a historic building housing a very good restaurant. For more good food try the Starving Artists CafÈ (near the Arts Depot - wonderful crab cakes, art shows on the walls, very nice for lunch) and the Peppermill. The White Birches Inn B&B is a very lovely place to stay. If you enjoy walking and/or biking, you won't want to miss the Creeper Trail.
