We just got back from 3 weeks in New Zealand -
There are hikers' hotels everywhere on the South Island but they fill fast.
They are basic, but good; filled with young people their ages. Perhaps they
might inquire about travel at the medical school in Dunedin??? Everyone there
hikes and I'm sure they will know places that I don't!
Car rental is fairly expensive, but in my opinion, necessary as distances are great. Remember, if they do rent a car and will be traveling to the hiking areas and all over the South Island, tell them to fill up their car when they see a gas station as it's very far sometimes from one town to another... ! We are hikers and this was our second trip to the South Island, so if they have specific questions, please feel free to email me personally. Regards, Susie Newton, MA |
