Subject: speaking the language well can be bad... |
Hi Al,
We are sorry too that we missed each other!!, we did wait at the Hotel Victoria, for some 3/4 of an hour, called the Trujillo Parador but they also couldn 't help us ...one of those things, it wasn 't meant to be.- Some other time.... Reading your posting regarding that the Spanish language is not your forte, let me tell you that we had a not so good experience for knowing well the language... While in the Parador in Plascencia we did a side trip , first we visited to XV century monastery of Yuste and the Royal Quarters where Charles V past the last years of his life. I am sure you also visited them..., then we continued East to the Parador in Jarandilla de la Vera where we left the note for you ( the idea was to have lunch there but we changed our minds at the last moment), and then we continued East to visit a little town called Valvuerte de la Vera known for for its typical old houses, its Main Square with its famous fountain, etc., so there we went, arriving into town we asked a local, how to get to the old part of town, he understood of course our Spanish, the opposite would have been better because he told us all right how to get there...it didn't come to his mind to add, how Terribly difficult it was! ......, the main street is narrow, really narrow....and it is a both ways street being practically the only one available to get in or out of town. How we got in and out without a scratch is a miracle...... it is paved with sharp stones , with some sort of a cut in the middle to let the water out,....So you see: speaking Spanish got us into real trouble. On the other hand on another day we went North from Plascencia to visit Hervas, a little town with a marvelous Jewish quarter, declared a National Historic site. Here locals were more accommodating ( and clever) they told us where to leave the car and visit by foot....we had a great time in Hervas, there is one pasteleria next to the other, delicious....!!!! I am very happy you enjoyed Spain, so did we. Hasta pronto. Graziella, Miami Beach. |
