Yes, I visited Vaux-Le-Vicomte three years ago in the Fall and absolutely loved it. It had not been long since they had completed the refurbishing and furnishing, and I enjoyed it much more than Fontainebleu, which we toured the next day. There is a cafe sort of eating place at V-L-V, which was not gourmet, of course, but certainly convenient, which (with your children) could make a difference. I cannot imagine anyone touring the place and not feeling it time well spent.
The history is very interesting as well and the grounds and gardens lovely. The carriage collection is quite interesting in itself and maybe a drawing card for the kids.
