I absolutely never take the very short layover on the way out. It could ruin the trip if I miss the connection. On our trip to Paris in late March, our layover was one hour and 40 minutes, and I had a feeling that it wouldn't be enough. I was right.

We had to run to catch the plane to Paris, as the original flight from Pittsburgh to JFK was late. This was nerve wracking, to say the least. We would have missed our flight if the PTT flight had not also had 11 passengers for a flight to London who were very late. Rather than reschedule 11 passengers, all the European passengers on our flight out of Pittsburgh were hustled into a bus and through the back door of the European terminal. We were pushed into the gate of our Paris flight that was boarding. Pure luck.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. I would go for the flight with the easier connections.
