I am also a fan of the AA guides, although I tend to go for the even thinner ones that come without the maps at the back. Both types are readily available in the UK, so perhaps if you know people coming over from there you could ask them to bring relevant ones back for you? If they forget until the last minute, they are stocked at all the airport bookshops!
