We rent an apartment a few KM from Radda in Chianti. It is on an active organic Chianti vineyard owned by Paolo &Gianna Cianferoni. Although quite basic, it has everything two people could need. The location is superb - in the heart of Chianti country - equidistant from Siena &Florence and close enough to many points east, west &south for day trips. The apartment has a living room with large windows on two sides that allow that glorious Tuscan sunshine to enter from early in the morning until late in the afternoon. The bedroom is adequate - the large bed comfortable enough and a large armoire to hold your things. The bathroom is modern with a shower and small separate bathtub that was ideal for shaving my legs!!!! There is a washing machine and a line outside. The terrace, including table and chairs for dining, is delightful and the views of the vineyard and surrounding countryside are gorgeous. Paolo installed a pool last year which will be very refreshing in the heat of the summer. There is a small corner kitchen and although the cooking utensils are somewhat weary, they will suffice for simple meals. It is very clean, well situated and very well priced (about 550 Euros per week). We have sent many people who have been completely satisfied. We have stayed there twice and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Paolo's father is a professor of oenology (winemaking) in Florence and Paolo is very passionate about his grapes and the environment. His English skills have improved over the years and he is extremely knowledgeable about his art which he is always willing to share. His wines (Chianti Classico) are superb.
On one of our earlier trips we stayed at the Villa Scacciapensieri just outside Siena. This is a beautiful **** hotel with an outstanding dining room. Our room had a sitting area with couch &television and large windows that opened over the most beautiful garden. The bedroom was up a winding flight of stairs in a loft. It was charming. Parking &getting in and out of Siena is difficult but there was a bus stop right at the entrance to the hotel that took you right to the entrance of the old walls. I would recommend this hotel highly. Very expensive
